Phoenix Eagle Company Pty Ltd is a private company that was founded in 2002 and which is based in Perth, Western Australia.
Phoenix Eagle’s core asset is its proprietary IP. Patent applications have been filed in the most important global markets to protect this IP. To date, patents have been granted in six jurisdictions.
Phoenix Eagle has developed a range of topically applied products known as OPAL Products. These products are created from fruits and vegetables that have been subjected to the OPAL Process, which results in the formation of complex products with remarkable therapeutic and cosmetic properties.
The OPAL Process is a platform technology that may lead to products and applications across multiple markets. Phoenix Eagle’s target markets are large and have significant unmet needs. Phoenix Eagle’s current focus is on the clinical validation of OPAL A in the treatment of venous and pressure ulcers. Other wound healing applications and other medical indications and cosmetic applications will be explored in the future.
A clinical trial is planned to commence at the Heidelberg Repatriation Hospital in Melbourne in October to test the safety and efficacy of the Company’s lead product, OPAL A. Associate Professor Michael Woodward, who is the president of the Australian Wound Management Association, will be the principal investigator.
Phoenix Eagle has achieved a number of critical milestones to date, including:
- - Patents granted in China, India, South Africa, Australia, Singapore and New Zealand
- - Scientific studies directed to the creation of new patentable material and identification of active ingredients and mechanisms of action.
- - Pilot bio-engineering run at the Queensland Institute of Medical Research
- - Publication of a manuscript in a peer-reviewed journal (Wound Practice and Research, May 2008), describing clinical use of OPAL001 in the Quadriplegic Centre, a public hospital located in Perth
- - Publication of an abstract and presentation of the subject matter at a peer-reviewed conference of the Australian Wound Management Association in May 2008, describing anecdotal use of OPAL001 in the treatment of a variety of types of skin ulcers
- - Execution of the Company’s first licence agreement
- - A significant up-front payment was received and the Company is entitled to royalties from sale of therapeutic and cosmetic products. The agreement is confined to Australia.
