An evening program held at the Innovation Centre, open to all USC students and staff and the local business community, it is specifically designed and targeted at those who:

    • want to learn how to transform an idea into business
    • want to find out if entrepreneurship is for them
    • want to acquire some of the vocabulary of business and how businesses think about ideas
    • learn how to protect intellectual property in the early stages of venturing
    • learn some practical business skills

SURVIVE AND PROSPER - Trevor Holmes

Trevor Holmes, Managing director of ENACT Business Architects and small business expert will be presenting SURVIVE AND PROSPER, a FREE seminar to show you the steps you need to take to ‘recession proof your business’ and have it survive these tough times.

 "Recruiting & Building a Dream Team"- Colin Graham

Ask any investor or experienced entrepreneur why start-up businesses succeed and the typical answer will be ‘because of the management team.’

This presentation will focus on how to get beyond the solo entrepreneur and provides practical ideas on how - and when - to recruit and build a balanced team for a start-up or early stage business.

The presentation is by Colin Graham, CEO of the Innovation Centre. Colin has worked with over 60 start-ups and his business experience includes marketing, recruitment and training roles. He was the co-founder of a graduate recruitment firm in the UK and USA and also worked for the Career Innovation Company - based in Oxford - with client companies such as Reuters, Marriott and GlaxoSmithKline, often represented by their Global Staffing Director.

GETTING IT RIGHT! Legal issues for start-ups - Gavin Barnes

Presented by Gavin Barnes, Principal and founder of redchip Lawyers based in Brisbane with a new visiting office on the Sunshine Coast. Gavin specialises in corporate and commercial advisory work, joint ventures, trusts, franchising, capital raising, intellectual property and new business start ups.
 
Gavin's presentation will highlight the key legal issues that start-up businesses need to consider and address to boost chances of business success. Spending time on legal issues at the start of a business can save a lot of time, money and hassle later. Main issues to be covered include business structure, intellectual property and agreements with staff and investors.
