With your market know-how and “pitch” to clients now clear it’s time to really commit to numbers. By identifying your key business drivers and estimated cost relationships you should be in a position to build your spreadsheet business plan  for the next 3 to 5 years. Make sure you do not go excel crazy and end up being larger and more profitable than Microsoft.

Use these guiding goals to shape your operational business plan as well to ensure you meet the goals you have created. Use the business plan as it is meant as a business tool to manage your growth, not as a paperweight or doorstop.

Your business plan should contain a realistic cash-flow and some thought on how you will get the funding required as well as how you propose to exit your business when the time comes.
